Firey Sunset at Ruby Beach - Olympic National Park

One evening while on a photography workshop in Olympic National Park,we all decided to drive over to Ruby Beach to capture a wonderful sunset.  We spent some time perusing the beach. The sun was beginning to drop lower in the sky and along with the clouds, the scene was slowly getting more dramatic.

After several more minutes, I was able to capture this stunning, firey sunset scene.  As you can see, it was just gorgeous!

Haystack - Oregon Coast copy.jpg

Sunset at Haystack Rock - Oregon Coast

Haystack Rock is a 235 ft-tall sea stack in Cannon Beach, Oregon.  The monolithic rock is adjacent to the beach and accessible by foot at low tide. The tide pools are home to many intertidal animals, including starfish, sea anemone, crabs, chitons, limpets, and sea slugs.  The rock is also a nesting site for many sea birds, including terns and puffins.

Haystock Rock is composed of basalt and was formed by lava flows emanating from the Blue Mountains and Columbia basin about 15-17 million years ago.  The lava flows came from massive eruptions from a source believed to be what is now the Yellowstone volcanic hotspot, and created many of the Oregon coast's nature features.  Haystack Rock was once joined to the coastline but years of erosion have since separated the monolith from the coast.  Three smaller adjacent rock formations to the south of Haystack Rock are collectivelly called "The Needles".  While walking along the beach this dramatic sunset scene was taking place, I knew I had to stop and pull out all my camera gear to capture this beautiful sunset scene.ENJOY!

Last Light at Schoodic Point - Acadia NP

Schoodic Peninsula is the only section of Acadia National Park that is located on the mainland of Maine. Shared by the towns of Gouldsboro and Winter Harbor, the penninsula is a more secluded  setting. Spectacular panoramic views of Frenchman Bay and Mount Desert Island can be seen from  Schoodic Head's 440 feet high point. Schoodic Point at the southern tip of the peninsula, has granite out croppings, pounding surf, spruce, and unusual groupings of jackpine. I spent quite a long time here on this magnificent peninsula and before I left I was able to capture this spectacular view,.
